International Working Women’s Day 2025: APMM’s Beijing+30 Regional Review Statement

Today, March 8, the world celebrates International Working Women's Day to remember the countless women who fought for their rights and welfare many decades ago.

Today, the fight continues in the context of intensifying economic, political, and climate crises, as well as heightening conflicts within and beyond the Asia Pacific. As a response to these pressing challenges, the UN established the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) in 1995 which serves as a "a blueprint for gender equality and women's rights." But 30 years after, the world system remains unjust to women, including migrant women who are forced to leave their families in search of better opportunities somewhere else.

Nevertheless, migrant women move courageously with the grit to combat all forms of abuse and exploitation. As we remember and support their struggle, APMM crafted a statement during the Beijing+30 Regional Review last November 2024, spotlighting urgent recommendations to the UN and governments to uphold the rights and welfare of migrant women in the implementation of BPfA.
