Training on elements of design and social media poster creation

The first round of online training on advocacy and engagement started on 9 March 2022, with the training on elements of design and social media poster creation. The training was organized by Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM) and Asia Pacific Research Network (APRN).

The training aims to empower grassroots and advocates of migrant organizations with knowledge and skills on digital platforms for campaigns, publicity and media work.

There are two sessions in the training. In the first session, the participants discussed better online campaigns, more engaging campaign material and better workflow.

Observation, sensitivity and awareness is crucial in design. Design is not about how something looks, but more importantly is about how it works. A campaign can be considered as a home for a better dialogue. Online presence should be curated as it is a virtual home, where we build trust for a meaningful dialogue.

Engaging content of campaigns can be seen through some aspects that are relevant, interactive and creative. Design thinking is also a non-linear process, a failure can be the next steps of success.

Designing is both a learning and teaching process, engaging and raising awareness and skills of organization, members and community. In a campaign, where design is part of it, it can be done by everyone in the organization and even by the community.

The second session was about creating social media posters using Canva. At the end of the session, the organizers provide participants with premium access to canva, and participants will have access for a year, if they want to use it.
