Building Stories, Breaking Chains: A zine of Rengga poems from migrant women and advocates in Asia Pacific
Last September, APMM held a side-event during APWLD’s Fourth Asia Pacific Feminist Forum (APFF4) in Bangkok, Thailand. Along with migrant women, advocates, and organizations, we delved into discussing the critical importance of ILO C189 (Domestic Workers Convention) and C190 (Violence and Harrassment Convention) to them. Many experiences and stories were shared during the session.
As a way to creatively express aspirations and demands for better protection for migrant women, a Rengga-making workshop was done. In the process, migrant women and advocates came together to mold different stories and perspective into poems that do not only center their issues, but also their strength, solidarity and hope.
Following the completion of the poems, APMM ventured into collecting them into a zine that encapsulates the outcome of the side-event and showcases the rich experiences and demands of migrant women in the Asia Pacific region.
