[Introducing] Network for the Protection of Women Migrants' Rights
We are happy to introduce the Network for the Protection of Women Migrants' Rights.
The Network for the Protection of Women Migrants' Rights is a newly-established network advocates and supporters for the protection of rights of migrant women in Asia Pacific. It was a result of a round table discussion to discuss the current state of women migrants in the region and how migrants’ rights advocates, women’s groups and other civil society groups can support them.
The Network for the Protection of Women Migrants’ Rights considered it is important to pay special attention to the rights of migrant women and work together to defend their rights through many initiatives including supporting women migrant organisations’ campaigns
The roundtable was initiated by the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM) and attended by representatives from Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW), International Women's Alliance (IWA), Migrante International, GABRIELA Philippines, Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law, and Development (APWLD), and CARAM Asia. It was held on 22 September 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Currently, it is coordinating to support the ongoing campaign to free Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina migrant worker jailed in Indonesia for drug trafficking. To know more about her case, please go to this link.
